“Constitution in Crisis?” Series – Part 1 

Panel Discussion on Tuesday, September 21, 2021  

Participants:  Professors Gordon, Abdelkader, Steenson, and Wilson 

Title:  “Let's Discuss Critical Race Theory“

Time:  4:30 – 6:00 p.m. CT

Topics/questions:

  1.  Are there any constitutional limits on the ability of a state to prohibit the teaching of critical race theory in its schools?
  2. Are there any constitutional limits on the ability of a state to require the teaching in its schools, should it wish to, of blatantly white supremacist ideology as the "preferred" ideology?
  3. Are there any constitutional limits on a state's ability to structure diversity training for its employees or to limit its employees from propagating "divisive concepts" however it wants to?
  4. What do the answers to the first three questions tell us about the strengths and limitations of our constitutional structure?
