Alumni CLE Series: Private Adoptions 101: How to Navigate Your First Adoption Case

Event Description:
Minnesota adoption laws are complicated and generally focused on foster-care and agency placements. This CLE focuses on filing your first private adoption case, including intra-familial, step-parent, and other private adoption matters. Learn how to properly represent adoptive parents looking to complete their families to ensure that the correct documents are filed and delays are avoided. This CLE will also discuss potential immigration benefits available to certain adopted children and what findings are necessary to preserve these immigration benefits.

Presenter Biography:
Presenter Kathleen Korniyenko ('14) is an attorney with Wilson Law Group in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kathleen focuses her practice on family and juvenile law and has successfully represented adoptive parents under a variety of circumstances. A fluent Spanish-speaker, many of Kathleen's clients are immigrants to the United States who need to ensure their adoptions not only follow Minnesota law, but also meet the requirements of federal immigration regulations.
