High School Voter Education Project - Information Session for Potential Volunteers
Start Date: 10/12/2018Start Time: 2:30 PM
End Date: 10/12/2018End Time: 3:30 PM
Event Description:
MJF is working on a new project this fall to present information on voting to high school students. Our partners in this project will primarily be classroom teachers who have worked with the Street Law program in the past two years. The idea is that the classroom teacher would choose up to three of the following lessons: Voting in Minnesota; the History of the Voting Rights Act; and Contemporary Issues in Voting Rights. Students could volunteer in small groups (or potentially alone, if desired) to present this information. MJF will put together outlines of resources that will serve as the base for lesson plans. Students could volunteer once or multiple times. MJF will hold a short training (~45-60 minutes) to go over the resources; brainstorm possible activities; and discuss how to present this information in a nonpartisan manner. This could be an especially good fit for people who have a background in GOTV activities and/or youth work experience (social workers, teachers, Reading CORPS volunteers, etc.).
